Ten Sample Promotional Opportunities For Truckstops

With the summer drive coming, it is time to plan promotions to take advantage of the increased traffic.

I would encourage you to focus on profitable products that consumers on the road WANT. Remember the three reasons people exit the interstate are restrooms, fuel and FOOD. Make sure you are creating a sound promotional strategy around the food portion of the three reasons to stop.

Also take advantage of the recent industry demographic changes to more families, children and female customers visiting your location. Ensure you take advantage of this NEW shopper, versus the buyers that normally shop your store the rest of the year.

To get your creative retail mind working, here are ten sample promotional opportunities:

  1. Provide a discount on an e-cigarette universal usb charger if a pack of cigarettes is bought.
  2. Provide a discount on a Zippo lighter if two packs of cigarettes are bought.
  3. Provide a discount on select pastries if a 16 oz. minute maid orange juice is bought.
  4. Provide a third hot dog at a reduced price if two are bought.
  5. Provide a bag of chips for a reduced price if a 20 oz. fountain soda and a freshly-made sandwich is bought.
  6. Provide a discounted price for buying two 1-liter sodas rather than one.
  7. Provide a cell phone case at a discounted rate if a cellular charger is bought.
  8. Provide a discount if two pairs of shorts are bought rather than one.
  9. Provide a pair of flips flops for a discounted price if a pair of sunglasses is bought.
  10. Provide a baseball cap at a discounted rate if you purchase a case of additives.
