This summer Gateway Travel Plaza in Breezewood, Pennsylvania, held a two-day event to honor drivers, and I attended to learn more about the location, talk with drivers and share information on NATSO’s Checklink.
While there, I met with the location’s general manager, Danielle Berkstresser, along with other employees.
Berkstresser’s staff was friendly and outgoing. I was surprised at how connected they were with the drivers. I told her that her staff was terrific with the drivers and she said, “If they’re not, I don’t hire them. I only hire people who will make the driver experience No. 1.”
During the driver appreciation event, Gateway Travel Plaza had free refreshments, food and beverages. The drivers really seemed to like it. That is something special for the travel plaza to recognize their driver customer base and to help them realize they care about them and appreciate them.
Berkstresser spent 11 hours a day during the two-day event out on the blacktop saying hello to every driver who entered the location.
There were several booths at the event, including NATSO’s Checklink booth where I talked with drivers about the service. I was educating people about how Checklink can save them money on their monthly billing fees and possibly at the pump compared to their fueling cards, credit cards and debit cards.
