Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) is pushing to create an infrastructure subcommittee within the House Ways and Means Committee if Democrats take back the House in an effort to create a new forum for discussing ways to bolster infrastructure investment, Politico reports.

In a statement to the Washington, D.C., political publication, Rep. Blumenauer said,"I've been exploring the creation of a new subcommittee on Ways and Means dedicated to infrastructure finance to allow us to listen to the American people and ensure the voices that haven't been able to testify are given the opportunity to be heard."

Although he hasn't yet received any commitments, Rep. Blumenauer reportedly has talked to Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.), the ranking member of Ways and Means; Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), the ranking member of the House Transportation Committee; Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and the party's leadership in the House; along with dozens of members. An aide to the Congressman said they have received positive feedback, Politico reports.

Creating the new panel would require a change to House rules, which limit committees to five subcommittees plus an oversight panel.
