In an interview with the Denver Post, NATSO called attention to the need for local enforcement officials to enforce CDC social distancing guidelines without unnecessarily disrupting the efficient movement of essential supplies throughout the country.
The Post reported that “to keep the line from snapping,” truck stops across the country are staying open. Truckstops are considered part of the nation’s critical infrastructure workforce under the federal guidance issued March 19.
“Fuel retailers are ‘essential’ businesses that must remain open even if other ‘nonessential’ businesses are forced to close,” NATSO President and CEO Lisa Mullings said in an interview.
NATSO told the Denver Post that despite the federal guidelines, some local jurisdictions have imposed restrictions on truck stops that go beyond the Centers for Disease Control recommendations. The restrictions result in forcing drivers to spend more time to buy food and use the restrooms, delaying deliveries of medical supplies and food.
