The NATSO Foundation today launched a new online course in the “How Truckstops Help People” educational series. Titled “How Truckstops Help the Homeless,” the 30-minute course teaches truckstop owners, operators and employees how to assist someone who may be experiencing homelessness or who is without resources at their location.

“How Truckstops Help the Homeless” marks the second online learning tool in a suite of four courses designed to help teach members of the truckstop and travel plaza industry how to respond to requests for help from people in need of assistance in various life-threatening scenarios.

“Truckstops and travel plazas nationwide play an integral role in the communities in which they operate. Assisting those who may be experiencing homelessness is one step that the truckstop community can collectively take to make a meaningful impact on the lives of people who need help,” said NATSO President and CEO Lisa Mullings. “The truckstop industry is coming together to solidify its response to those situations where someone is in need of our help.”

“How Truckstops Help the Homeless” is available on the NATSO Foundation’s new learning management system free of charge so that any member of the truckstop and travel plaza industry can leverage this educational resource. The course can be accessed at www.natso.com/onlinelearning.

The NATSO Foundation developed its online learning initiative in an effort to strengthen the nation’s truckstop and travel plaza industry by delivering comprehensive educational and safety training materials to truckstop owners, operators and employees.

The premiere module titled “The Role of Truckstops in Combating Human Trafficking” launched earlier this month in support of National Human Trafficking Awareness month. Additional courses planned for the “How Truckstops Help People” series will focus on what to do for drivers who are suffering distress and how to respond during a natural disaster.

While the NATSO Foundation’s online education courses are available to anyone in the nation’s truckstop and travel plaza community, a userID and password to NATSO's website is required. Users unsure of their NATSO website log-in or in need of an account can contact NATSO’s Manager of Travel Plaza Member Services Kimberly Roberts at 703-739-8573 or kroberts@natso.com.
