NATSO Creates New Tool for Truckstops and Travel Centers Improve Operations and Reduce Risk With an Operational Checklist

NATSO, representing America's travel plazas and truckstops, today introduced a new Travel Center Comprehensive Operational Checklist that truckstop and travel center operators can utilize to manage key tasks, improve day-to-day operations, ensure safety and reduce risk.

NATSO Vice President of Membership Darren Schulte created the list based on hundreds of visits to NATSO member locations as well as decades of first-hand experience in truckstop operations.

Running a truckstop or travel plaza comes with an endless list of tasks to accomplish. The days can be hectic, and it can be easy to become distracted, which is why a thorough checklist can help operators and managers stay focused and manage their various duties.

The checklist compiles more than 110 crucial tasks and items to complete in one place. It covers key areas within a truckstop or travel center and includes items related to environmental and safety factors, emergency and spill response, oil water separator, security, parking lot, bulk diesel exhaust fluid, diesel fuel islands, building interior and building exterior.

“Checklists let you complete tasks more quickly and efficiently and ensure nothing slips through the cracks," Schulte said. "That leads to greater peace of mind, fewer mistakes and, ultimately, improved customer service. That strengthens your brand and improves your bottom line."

With the checklist, managers or owners can quickly scroll through and know that they have covered everything from checking to make sure that under-pump containment boxes are free of excessive product and/or water to making sure store merchandise is priced, clean, faced/fronted and well stocked.

The downloadable Travel Center Comprehensive Operational Checklist is available to members for $150 and non-members for $300. To purchase the checklist, click here.
