Truckstops Hit With $1.7 Million Scam
Dilshod Sidikov of Brooklyn, N.Y., was found guilty of wire fraud and money laundering and sentenced to 37-months in prison after he and co-conspirators defrauded a number of truckstop companies of more than $1.7 million in a scheme involving stolen money transfer codes. Petro Stopping Center Renamed
The Petro Stopping Center in North Las Vegas, Nev., has been renamed the Bob and Linda Caffee Stopping Center. The Caffees, who have been co-drivers for FedEx for the last 10 years, were recent recipients of TravelCenters of America's Citizen Driver Award. Pegasus TransTech has acquired TripPak Services and ACS Advertising from Xerox. The acquisition will add 500 truckstop locations to Pegasus' network and will bring the company's fleet-served total to 3,000. Pegasus provides document capture and transmission, billing, collections, payroll, and other revenue cycle processes for the transportation industry. The company said it serves more than 900 travel centers in North America, 42 of the top-50 truckload carriers, and 17 of the top-30 freight brokers, and over 350,000 drivers. The Iowa 80 Truckstop on June 4 observed its 50th anniversary, and the Iowa 80 Kitchen joined in the celebration by rolling back the clock. The Peel family, who has operated the Iowa 80 Kitchen since 1964, marked the special day by pricing certain menu items at their original fare. Coffee was priced at 10 cents. Cheeseburger and fries were just 55 cents and 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes and meat was priced at 95 cents. Congratulations to all involved in the past 50 years of a landmark. I-81 Diversions Considered
According to Freight Analysis Framework data, Interstate 81 carries on average 11,000 trucks per day. Because of limited capacity on the route, trucks often face significant delays. Consequently, the I-81 Corridor Coalition has been created to develop a system to better connect truck drivers with information. One of the proposals includes a system that connects drivers with alternate routes when an accident or poor weather is ahead. Industrial packing material distributor Uline Inc. announced the commencement of construction on a 1 million square-foot distribution center outside of Milwaukee, Wisc. The Sapp Bros. Travel Center in Columbus, Neb., will be the site of a new CNG pumping station. The travel center is partnering with Strik Compressed Natural Gas and Frontier Cooperative to build and open the pumping station in the fall of 2014.
