House Committees Work to Meet Reconciliation Deadline

/

The House Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce committees are scheduled to complete work today ahead of the deadline for submitting their portions of Democrats’ tax and spending legislation. Committees have until today to submit their parts of the $3.5 trillion economic plan to the House Budget Committee under the reconciliation instructions in the budget resolution (S. Con. Res. 14).

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted 37-29 Sept. 14 to approve $57.3 billion in a bill that includes money for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in surface transportation. The transportation funding would be in addition to the money included in the bipartisan Senate Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, (H.R. 3684).

The House Energy and Commerce Committee on Sept. 14 also approved a portion of the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation measure, advancing $150 billion for a clean electricity performance program and a $13.5 billion electric vehicle infrastructure plan that includes constructing chargers in publicly accessible locations and underserved regions, as well as electrifying industrial and medium-heavy duty vehicles. It would provide $17.5 billion to transition federal buildings and vehicle fleets away from fossil fuels and fund some charging stations.

It also includes $5 billion in Environmental Protection Agency grants to replace heavy-duty vehicles, and $3.5 billion for grants to lower air pollution at ports.
