Marking yet another sign that the Trump Administration seeks to roll back President Obama’s climate initiatives, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) asked the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to put a 90-day hold on a lawsuit over the agency’s Phase 2 emissions and fuel economy standards for heavy-duty trucks manufactured beginning in 2019 while it decides whether to modify or rescind the rule.

A recently published analysis by Carnegie Mellon University, evaluating the potential life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from using natural gas to power light-duty vehicles, demonstrates the “uncertainty and variability” of such assessments. The study contributes to the library of studies conducting life cycle analysis of GHG emissions from using natural gas in the transportation sector through multiple pathways.
