NATSO Urges Energy and Commerce to Include Commercial Trucks in REPAIR Act

/

The Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade conducted a legislative hearing January 13 on a variety of bills, including the Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair Act (REPAIR Act, H.R. 1566). NATSO supports the REPAIR Act, legislation that would provide independent repair shops with fair access to diagnostic, telematic, and repair data to keep trucks moving safely and efficiently along the Interstate Highway System.

The REPAIR Act is one of the bills being considered for inclusion in the surface transportation reauthorization that must be passed by September 30, 2026. NATSO is working to ensure that lawmakers include REPAIR Act provisions in the broader highway bill package.

In recent weeks, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have asked that policymakers exclude commercial motor vehicles from the REPAIR Act’s protections. Excluding commercial vehicles would undermine the purpose of the REPAIR Act, limit travel center operator’s access to vital repair information, increase repair costs, and delay critical repairs for America’s professional drivers. NATSO is meeting with E&C staff to educate them about the critical need for independent repair shops to have the same access to data and information as licensed dealers and the importance of including commercial trucks.

NATSO encourages those members with independent repair shops and locations represented by a lawmaker on the Energy and Commerce Committee to contact your lawmaker and express support for the REPAIR Act, H.R. 1566 as introduced by Congressman Dunn.

Please let Energy and Commerce lawmakers know that you support the REPAIR Act as introduced by Reps. Neal Dunn (FL-02) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03).
