More and more truck drivers are using apps to decide where to stop, and truck stop and travel plaza operators can use the apps to help drive business to their locations. During NATSO Connect, Stop Watch sat down with Chris Oliver, chief marketing officer for Trucker Path, to learn more about the Trucker Path app and the free features operators can use to promote their businesses.
Trucker Path—a driver app used by about 1 million commercial truck drivers monthly—provides drivers with navigational assistance and freight matching services and helps them find truck stops and available parking.
Take Advantage of the Free Listings to Promote Your Location(s)
Truckers can’t see a truck stop on Trucker Path unless it is listed, and Oliver recommends operators take advantage of the free listings to promote their locations, which he said benefits drivers as well as highway-based businesses.
Make Sure to Enhance Your Listing
Once operators claim their location, they can share information about their locations, amenities and truck parking. Oliver said drivers like to see photos, and operators should add pictures of food, showers, parking and other amenities to showcase their offerings.
Locations can also update their truck parking availability and status. Oliver said one of the most used features on the Trucker Path app is the parking availability reporting. According to Trucker Path, drivers tend to visit locations with updated statuses and avoid those that haven’t been updated frequently.
The app provides fuel pricing information from a fuel price feed, but locations can override it to list their current fuel prices. While it is free to list a location, operators can also become part of the Trucker Path fuel network to offer discounts and have their locations highlighted on drivers’ routes.
Make Sure to Read and Respond to Driver Reviews
Trucker Path encourages drivers to leave reviews of locations, and Oliver recommends operators take time to read and respond to driver feedback. That can include thanking those who gave good reviews and letting others know that staff will use their feedback to try and make improvements.
