Truckstops Remain Open with Fuel, Food, Showers Available

/

As America's truck drivers continue their critical role of transporting essential supplies such as medical supplies, food, fuel and other goods, it is important that they are confident that they will have places to refuel, eat, and shower and rest. As dozens of new state and local restrictions on businesses are announced every day, and as states announce closures of highway rest areas  many drivers are understandably concerned that truckstops will be forced to suspend operations.

NATSO members are encouraged to alleviate these driver concerns: Although many sit-down dining options are having to convert to take-out formats, NATSO has not been made aware of any governmental order requiring travel centers to suspend operations, nor has NATSO been made aware of any plans for governments to issue such orders. On May 17, NATSO received a letter from the U.S. Department of Transportation reiterating the "essential" role that travel centers are playing as the country grapples with this pandemic. Although this letter has no legal effect, it should nonetheless go a long way toward alleviating drivers' concerns that they could potentially be without a place to eat, rest, and refuel.

NATSO applauds its members and the nation's truck drivers for the integral role they are playing in helping the U.S. get through the current crisis.
