Owners of heavy highway vehicles are reminded to file their next federal highway use tax return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by Aug. 31. The deadline applies to Form 2290, the Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return, and the associated tax payment for the tax year that started July 1 and will end June 30, 2016. Returns and payments must be filed and made by Aug. 31 for vehicles used on the road in July. For vehicles first used after July, the deadline is the last day of the month after the month of first use.
