Brix Your Fountain Drink Machine to Cut Costs
When it comes to fountain drinks, consistency is key. Truckstop and travel plaza operators sell many thousands of cups of soda annually, and the key to great tasting soda is ensuring it has the proper brix, which is the ratio of syrup to water. What’s more, if you’re not regularly brixing your fountain, you’re mostly likely dispensing more soda syrup than is necessary, and it is probably costing you thousands of dollars of profit annually.
Soda distributors will provide brix kits for fountain machines if you just ask in most cases. The brix tool separates the syrup from the carbonated water, and it is almost like something out of science class. There is a small tube for the syrup and a larger tube for the carbonated water and an adapter that hooks onto the fountain machine. The adapter pushes the syrup into the smaller tube and the carbonated water goes into the larger tube and they should fill up exactly the same. Fountain machines have either twisty knobs or a screw where you adjust the syrup or the water to make it the appropriate level. Older models often have screws so you may need a screwdriver handy.
Operators who want additional instructions on how to brix their fountain can simply ask their soda fountain distributor for instructions specific to their fountains.
Not only will brixing a machine ensure you’re not wasting syrup, it can help with customer loyalty. If a machine isn’t properly brixed, your soda doesn’t have the right taste. And if you don’t have it correct, you will lose a customer. Fountain drinkers are often very loyal and consistent taste is paramount for them returning.
