Senate Republicans are set to deliver a revised offer of a package that includes roads, public transportation and airports to the White House as early as May 17. President Biden in a meeting last week indicated that he would be willing to divide his $2.3 trillion American Jobs Plan into separate bills in order to gain bipartisan support.

Under House Bill 1002, funding for Indiana’s transportation infrastructure would be paid through increased gas taxes and annual fees, as well as the creation of new toll roads. The bill passed the House weeks ago, and is now before the Senate Homeland Security and Transportation Committee.

Rep. Shuster also said that raising the gas tax to pay for a long-term bill would be impossible.
