NATSO is offering a Transportation Energy Track during NATSO Connect 2022, which will be held Feb. 20-24, 2022, at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida.

“We want to ensure the nation’s truckstops and travel centers have the knowledge they need to meet the country’s fueling needs, no matter what fuel is powering the vehicle,” said Amy Toner, vice president of publishing and digital content for NATSO.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on March 17 held a four-hour hearing on business solutions to climate change. The Committee, which invited NATSO to testify, effectively kicked off the first of a series of hearings that will undoubtedly lay the groundwork for Congress to draft infrastructure legislation in the coming months. The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to award up to $100 million in competitive grants to expand the sale and use of renewable fuels, including biodiesel. Under the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program, USDA will award $14 million to expand the infrastructure for higher blends of biodiesel and $86 million for higher blends of ethanol in an effort to increase the sale and use of higher blend renewable fuels.

Electric vehicles may be the shiny new object, but speakers at the National Biodiesel Conference & Expo in January confirmed that the diesel engine will continue dominating the market for a long time.

John Eichberger, Executive Director of the Fuels Institute, illustrated this point with federal data:

77% of all distillate energy is used by the over-the-road freight market.
A 14% increase in registered diesel vehicles is expected by 2035 — including more passenger models.
Diesel vehicle miles traveled are projected to increase 23% by 2035.

In late December, President Trump signed legislation that retroactively renewed the $1-per-gallon biodiesel tax credit and extended it through 2022. It marked an enormous victory for not only the travel center industry, but also for the environment and America’s truck drivers and consumers.
