For two and a half days, the industry gathers to find knowledge, solutions and connections at The NATSO Show. Just like The NATSO Show, The NATSO Show Magazine is your source for improving your travel plaza business operations. Unlike The NATSO Show it is year-round.

Four Ways to Connect with Truckstop Customers

Building a brand is dependent on connecting with customers, and the nation’s most icon brands invest time and money researching the best ways to engage shoppers. During The NATSO Show 2016, J.T. McMahan, director of sales for Coca-Cola Refreshments, shared his insight into four key ways businesses can connect with those they serve.

Know Your Message: Before a connection can occur, companies first have to understand the image and message they want to convey. “If you had 10 people shop your location and you got to survey them after, what would they say you stood for? If you asked 10, would they give the same 10 answers? Are those the answers you want to get? Whatever your niche and your piece is, you communicate it so every consumer would know,” McMahan said.

Offer Help: For today’s shoppers, help is welcome. “The consumer now is a very smart consumer, but always wants input. It isn’t only about what’s around me, it is about what do people say about me. There is a ton of information out there and consumers are looking at what other people are saying.

Be Personal and Relevant. “One of the key things for you as retailers is it is very important to the consumer to feel like you care,” McMahan said.

Create an Experience: “Everything is an experience now,” McMahan said. “People want to experience their consumption in different ways. People are ready to unplug and experience whatever they’re going to next. There is a very what’s next approach to going about our days.”
