NATSO President and CEO Lisa Mullings said truckstops and travel plazas are open across the United States and feel a tremendous sense of pride and patriotism in serving the nation's drivers as they deliver critical supplies amid the pandemic. Mullings made the comments in a recent radio interview with The 2st, a production of Illinois public media. The segment aired in various markets across the state.

Nearly every part of the American economy has been touched by the coronavirus pandemic, including trucking. But because people still need medical supplies, hospital equipment and groceries, truck drivers are far from slowing down, The 21st reported.

Illinois truck driver Steve Wilmert of Springfield also expressed gratitude for the steps truckstops are taking to keep locations clean and truck drivers safe.

“I realize what truck driving does for the economy as a whole,” he says. “I’ve always had the opinion everyone’s essential one way or another… everybody plays a part.”
