Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) on June 16 introduced legislation that seeks to repeal the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
Sen. Cassidy said the EPA has overstepped its authority and mismanaged the fuel standard, missing deadlines for the 2014 and 2015 RFS regulations.
S. 1584 would completely do away with the RFS, however the measure faces an uphill battle in Congress.
EPA in May issued a proposed rule for the volumetric requirements under the RFS for 2014 through 2016 as well as a 2017 proposed standard for biomass-based diesel.
EPA had agreed to issue its proposed RFS volume requirements for 2015 by June 1, and a final rule establishing the volumes for 2014 and 2015 by Nov. 30 under a consent decree that settled a lawsuit over EPA’s failure to meet Congressionally mandated RFS deadlines.
