Penn 80 Flying J in Milton, Pennsylvania, is a robust location that has placed an emphasis on the immediate, need-it-now purchases that come from shoppers on the go. Their slogan, “Refuel. Recharge. Reboot. Get Back on the Road,” rings true in the way products and offerings are positioned. Customers can find what they’re looking for and pass in and out of the location quickly.
You can see the emphasis on quick purchases in the product mix, which drives buying decisions throughout the location.
Customers will also find a huge assortment of gifts and novelties, and these sales are an important business opportunity for the location.
They have a robust grab-and-go food program as well as a Subway and a sit-down restaurant that features a nice buffet.
Penn 80’s fuel island is separate from the main building, and they’ve positioned their buildings to separate their professional driver and passenger vehicle customers.
When truck drivers are fueling, they don’t have to interact with car customers, which can help both groups of customers feel more comfortable when navigating the location and encourage repeat visits.
/// Did you know most weeks you can find me visiting a NATSO member truckstop location, spending three to four days, using my merchandising and operations expertise to help them grow their business? I periodically share about those great retailers I visit here on the blog. Read more Truckstop Travels here.
