NATSO President and CEO Lisa Mullings was featured in the "Empowering Our Female Truck Drivers" campaign, distributed in the Sept. 7 issue of USA Today, in which industry leaders highlighted the improvements that have been made for women within the industry.
Specifically, Mullings addressed how truckstops are adapting to meet the demands of the nation's truck drivers, including demands for healthier food options and faster speed of service.
Mullings said that today's retailers are working to get drivers in and out as quickly and efficiently as possible so that drivers can maximize their on-duty time. Truckstops are offering more fresh, grab and go food, she said, and when choosing new franchise food options, they carefully consider the amount of time it takes to order and serve the food. Store layouts also are being reconsidered.
Mullings also highlighted how technology is redefining the term convenience in the truckstop industry and being utilized to accommodate driver needs.
In addition to highlighting Park My Truck -- the mobile app launched by the NATSO Foundation, the American Transportation Research Institute and the American Trucking Associations to help truck drivers find available truck parking capacity -- Mullings discussed how technology helps drivers pre-order food or even schedule a pick-up of a personal delivery.
"Whatever the latest technology is, it really has to focus on accommodating drivers and making their entire experience easier, faster, better and simpler," Mullings said. "These are without question the tools that drivers need to make the most efficient use of their time."
The interview with Lisa Mullings, which was published by MediaPlanet, was distributed in the Sept. 7 issue of USA Today, and projected to reach millions of readers. It also is published online.
