NATSO, the national association representing truckstops and travel plazas, announced that it will host an educational workshop at NATSO Connect 2019, Feb. 10-13 in Orlando, Florida, titled “Renewable Fuels Master Class.” The workshop will help NATSO members implement profitable strategies related to alternative fuel supply options and fuel infrastructure.

The workshop will be co-hosted by NATSO’s Alternative Fuels Council, which NATSO started earlier this year to better enable its members to understand alternative fuel markets and incentives and incorporate those fuels into their fuel supply. The workshop in Orlando will focus on blending and selling renewable fuels such as biodiesel and ethanol.

Alternative Fuels Council Fuel Specialist Jeff Hove and Compliance Specialist Ginger Laidlaw will present an introduction into the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and Renewable Identification Numbers (RINS). They also will discuss methods for marketing RINs; renewable fuel supply options, the logistics of blending renewable fuels and steps for ensuring fuel quality.

“This renewable fuels marketing workshop will explain how to successfully incorporate alternative fuels into supply offerings,” said Hove. “This comprehensive session will offer a step by step guide for understanding and capitalizing on the opportunities that exist today, from the biodiesel tax credit to Renewable Identification Numbers to state-specific incentives.”

NATSO Vice President of Government Affairs David Fialkov will discuss the current state of the renewable fuels market, with a specific focus on policy issues. Specifically, Fialkov will address the status of the biodiesel blender’s tax credit and the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recent practice of issuing small refinery waivers, which free small refineries from their obligations from mixing biofuels under the RFS, and its effect on the current biofuels market.

The workshop will close with a demonstration of the Alternative Fuels Council’s exclusive RIN Management software, which provides real-time RIN management, a system of record for all RIN transactions, as well as RIN account reconciliations. Through this software, blenders and marketers can reduce the staff time that it takes to comply with the RFS by as much as 75 percent.

“Renewable Fuels Master Class” is scheduled to be held Monday, Feb. 11 from 9:30 a.m-noon at the Disney Yacht & Beach Club in Orlando, Fla.

This is just one of several educational sessions that will be presented during NATSO Connect 2019, Feb. 10-13, in Orlando, Florida. Hundreds of innovative, senior-level truckstop operators and industry partners will come together to gain new insights and uncover best practices. Learn more at www.natsoconnect.com.
