In Michigan voters rejected the constitutional amendment that would have delayed or blocked the planned New International Trade Crossing bridge between Detroit and Windsor, and Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder will meet with Canadian officials in the coming days to discuss trade and the new international crossing. Snyder negotiated the deal with the Canadian government to finance construction of the new bridge.
For years, travelers between Detroit and Windsor, Canada, had no other option but to travel the tolled bridge owned by the Manuel "Matty" Moroun family, which spent millions to defeat the legislation allowing a second bridge to be built to compete for traffic and tolls.
