Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, in an economic speech on Aug. 11, said that her proposed infrastructure plan is the best way to put Americans to work.

The plan, which she said would be the largest investment in job creation since World War II, would involve investments "building and modernizing our roads, our bridges, our tunnels, oiur railways, our ports, [and] our airports."

In the speech, she also touted her proposed "infrastructure bank," which she said would inject private sector capital into the infrastructure projects.

NATSO has long advocated for increased infrastructure spending. In May, dozens of truckstop and travel plaza operators came to Washington, D.C., for NATSO's annual "Day on the Hill" to lobby their members of Congress to increase the motor fuels excise tax to pay for much-needed infrastructure improvements.

"Although raising the gas and diesel excise tax rates seems to be the most reasonable, viable solution at the present time, our industry is open to any fair, efficient surface transportation funding mechanism," said David Fialkov, NATSO's Vice President of Government Affairs. "It is great to hear that both presidential candidates appear to recognize the importance of infrastructure spending."
