Harness the Excitement of a New Year at Your Truckstop

There is always an element of excitement that comes with the start of a new year. As an industry, we’re able to keep that enthusiasm going as we come together to share ideas and inspiration at NATSO Connect. I’m especially excited to be starting my role as NATSO’s chairman of the board for 2020. I am passionate about this industry and grateful to be serving you.

As some of you may know, I was six months old when my parents, Bill and Carolyn Moon, started Iowa 80 Truckstop, and I have worked in the family business for as long as I can remember. I’ve also been a part of NATSO for as long as I can remember, first attending annual meetings with my family and then as an active member of our family’s business.

My parents were early leaders within NATSO, and I started volunteering for the association when my father signed me up for the Government Affairs Committee. I jumped in, and it was one of the best things I’ve done. I encourage anyone thinking of getting involved to take the leap. NATSO’s staff makes it easy, and there are opportunities for everyone. We need and welcome your ideas and your support.

As an industry, we can accomplish so much when we move in the same direction. There are several critical issues we as an association will need to address in the year ahead, including the biodiesel tax credit and highway funding and tolling as the highway reauthorization expires in September.

Please plan now to attend NATSO’s Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C., in May when we come together to educate and inform our lawmakers about the valuable role our businesses play in the nation’s economy and in our local communities.

Throughout the year there will also be learning opportunities through in-person meetings, industry tours and webinars. These are always great ways to get to connect with your fellow operators and to get to know NATSO’s staff who are eager to be a resource for us.

Thank you to everyone who is able to attend NATSO Connect in Denver. Our industry is changing, and being successful in today’s highly competitive business environment requires ongoing learning, personal connections and collaboration. As it has for decades, NATSO will continue to help us work together to advance our industry, our businesses and our association. I hope you’re as energized for the year ahead as I am.
