Give Gifts That Get Noticed

Those looking to send gifts want to ensure they send something that will stand out and be appreciated.

As the holidays near, many people are making shopping lists and looking for the perfect items to send key customers. Those looking to send gifts want to ensure they send something that will stand out and be appreciated. Highway Business Matters talked with truckstop and travel plaza operators to find out more about the best gifts they’ve ever received.

“Something that we can share in the office is really nice,” said Rex Davis, president of Melvin L. Davis Oil Co. that operates locations in Stony Creek and Warfield, Va. “A basket of fruit or something we can share is much appreciated.”

Regional items can also stand out. Davis told HBM he looks forward to a box of Virginia apples one of his Virginia-based vendors sends. “It is locally grown and put together. It is neat,” he said.

Dave Shoemaker, president of Shoemaker’s Truck Station in Lincoln, Neb., said one of the neatest gifts he’s received was from a customer. “His wife had decorated a wash pan and filled it with fruits and candies. It wasn’t very expensive and they hand delivered it,” he said, noting that it is fun to try new soda pop, candies or cookies.

Like Davis, Shoemaker appreciates gifts he can share with all employees at a location. “We’ll sit it out and let the employees munch on it,” he said.
