Lawmakers Introduce Measure to Establish Tax Holiday for Convenience Store, Grocery Employees

Representatives Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.) and Dwight Evans (D-Pa.) introduced the Giving Retailers and Our Convenience Employees Relief Act, or GROCER Act, which would establish a federal tax holiday for grocery and convenience store employees from Feb. 15 through June 15 for individuals making less than $75,000 annually. The bill would also provide discretion to the Treasury to extend this benefit for an additional three months. More

Davis Oil Saving Jobs, Giving Back Amid COVID-19

Rex Davis, Owner of Davis Oil Co., reassigned employees across his business in order to prevent layoffs amid the downturns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. After temporarily shutting down the location's Denny's restaurant, Davis transitioned employees into his Wendy's and Popeye's quick-serve restaurants as well as the travel center. The company also offered bonuses to full-time and part-time employees along with paid time off. Speaking about his employees Davis said, "We’re glad to have them and glad to keep them.” More

NATSO Member Highlights Essential Role of Truckstops and Travel Plazas

NATSO member Jim Anderson, General Manager for Truck N Travel in Oregon, underscored the essential role that truckstops and travel plazas play in keeping the nation's truck drivers on the road. During a recent on-camera interview with local ABC News affiliate KEZI 9, Anderson said truckstop employees are equally as important as the truck drivers delivering critical supplies. Anderson said truck drivers are grateful for access to locations that are safe, clean and open. Local drivers also expressed appreciation for the services they receive at truckstops. More

More

Foodservice Industry, Local Governments Seek to Keep Off-Highway Food Open for Truck Drivers

NATSO, along with 10 associations representing cities and communities, tens of thousands of off-highway foodservice businesses and blind merchants that manage vending machines at Interstate rest areas, sent a letter April 8 to the Federal Highway Administration regarding its recent announcement that it will not enforce the federal rest area commercialization ban against states that allow commercial food trucks to operate and sell food at interstate rest areas. More
