Bill and Carolyn Moon Scholarship 2021 Application Process Open

The NATSO Foundation will award five scholarships of $5,000 each in 2021 to deserving applicants. The NATSO Foundation currently is accepting applications for the 2021 Bill and Carolyn Moon Scholarship until May 14, 2021. All truckstop and travel plaza owners and operators, their employees and their legal dependents are eligible. Applicants are selected based on a short essay, academic merit and community activities.

The Bill and Carolyn Moon Scholarship Program has been changing lives for more than 20 years, awarding more than $300,000 in scholarships to date.

The NATSO Foundation awarded $25,000 in scholarships through the Bill and Carolyn Moon Scholarship program to five students with ties to the truckstop and travel plaza industry in 2020. The recipients of the NATSO Foundation’s 2020 Bill and Carolyn Moon Scholarship are:

  • Kevin Dhaliwal, Tomahawk Travel Center
  • Kyle Dhaliwal, Tomahawk Travel Center
  • Sean Momin, Pat’s Travel Center
  • Yadira Galindo Salazar, Petro Stopping Center #27
  • Sikes Wilson, Busy Bee #25

The scholarships provide much needed and deserved assistance to those who are planning for their post-secondary education.

The scholarship program is named after Bill and Carolyn Moon, who founded the Iowa 80 Group and made substantial contributions to NATSO, actively supporting and participating in industry-related government affairs issues.

Bill Moon served as chairman of NATSO in 1989 and as the first chairman of the NATSO Foundation in 1990. He lost his battle with cancer in 1992. For 50 years, Carolyn Moon worked at the Iowa 80 Truckstop and CAT Scale, serving as chairman of the board and chief information officer.

The NATSO Foundation releases the scholarship application each spring and applicants are judged by an independent review with selections based on an essay, academic merit, extracurricular activities, community activities and recommendation(s).

Truckstop and travel plaza employees and legal dependents can apply now for the 2021 Bill Moon Scholarship. Applications are available at www.natso.com/natsofoundation/billmoonscholarship.
