Anti-Tolling Coalition Launches Grassroots Petition Campaign to Oppose Tolls in Indiana

Indiana’s General Assembly currently is debating whether to toll existing interstates in the Hoosier State. Under House Bill 1002, funding for Indiana’s transportation infrastructure would be paid through increased gas taxes and annual fees, as well as the creation of new toll roads. Indiana’s General Assembly currently is debating whether to toll existing interstates in the Hoosier State. Under House Bill 1002, funding for Indiana’s transportation infrastructure would be paid through increased gas taxes and annual fees, as well as the creation of new toll roads. The bill passed the House weeks ago, and is now before the Senate Homeland Security and Transportation Committee.

The Alliance for Toll-Free Interstates (ATFI), of which NATSO is a founding member, has launched a public campaign to oppose tolling in Indiana: No Tolls Indiana.

Indiana motorists, truck drivers, businesses and families can go to NoTollsIndiana.com and sign the petition opposing the General Assembly’s tolling efforts. The petition says:

The Indiana General Assembly is currently debating a transportation bill that would allow tolls to be placed on existing roads without legislative approval. Tolling existing interstates:

  • Stifles economic development and hurts local businesses by driving up transportation costs.
  • Diverts heavy traffic onto secondary roads, which expedites costly repair and slows down first responders.
  • Wastes taxpayer dollars by spending funds on collection, enforcement and operational bureaucracies opposed to road repair.

We urge Indiana elected officials to reject tolling on existing interstates and instead find sustainable, long-term transportation funding solutions that will actually fix Indiana’s infrastructure deficit.

We urge all our Indiana members to go to NoTollsIndiana.com and sign the petition.
