Highway Trust Fund

Truckstop and travel center owners and operators rely on a vibrant Highway Trust Fund to enable America’s drivers to feel confident and secure traveling along the highways. Fees collected from highway users, such as gasoline and diesel excise taxes and truck taxes, are deposited into the Highway Trust Fund.  This money, in turn is supposed to be used for projects that benefit the highways and highway users. NATSO advocates for a robust Highway Trust Fund and supports long-term reauthorization of federal highway programs, even if such reauthorization requires raising the motor fuel excise tax.  At the same time, NATSO strongly opposes ineffective, inefficient, and counter-productive revenue-raising measures, such as expanded tolling on interstate highways and commercializing rest areas.
