Texas is in the midst of rapidly expanding toll road projects as the state struggles to finance transportation projects. In the last six years, the state has built more than 150 miles of toll roads and hundreds more miles of toll roads are planned. Houston and Dallas were the top two areas in Texas that collected the most tolls, and tolls are also expanding to smaller cities such as El Paso and Brownsville. The state is also looking at private-public partnerships, in which private firms invest in the roads and enact tolls.
