The Senate failed to end debate on the Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act last week.

S. 2237 would extend write-offs for capital investment and award a 10 percent tax credit to companies that add workers to their payrolls or increase wages.

The legislation was the Democrats' answer to a Republican House-passed bill, H.R. 9, that would provide a tax deduction to businesses with fewer than 500 employees if they add to their payrolls in 2012 through either creating new jobs or increasing wages. The Senate bill also would extend 100 percent bonus depreciation on qualified capital expenditures through 2012.
