When Congress gets to work next year on renewing the highway trust fund, increasing fuel taxes to fund highway infrastructure is going to be a tough sell, according to Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.).

Speaking to NATSO members as part of NATSO's annual Day on Capitol Hil, Rep. McMorris Rodgers said, "To put a gas tax [increase] on the table is going to be tough. To raise taxes is tough. You have your work cut out for you."

McMorris Rodgers, who is part of House Republican Leadership and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) is "pragmatic" and that she expected Congress to focus on the highway bill next year.
