U.S. retail pump prices for diesel exhaust fluid remained steady in February at $2.79 a gallon, the third straight month they have held at that level, according to the latest DEF Tracker.

  • U.S. biodiesel production nearly doubled in January, jumping 86 percent compared with December’s output, as a result of the renewal of the $1-a-gallon biodiesel tax credit. January’s nearly 121 million gallon biodiesel production puts the country well on pace to meet the 2013 Renewable Fuels Standard-2 production target of 1.28 billion gallons.

  • The weekly U.S. average regular gasoline retail price fell in early March for the first time since mid-December. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects that lower crude oil prices will result in monthly average regular gasoline prices staying near the February average of $3.67 per gallon over the next few months, with the annual average regular gasoline retail price declining from $3.63 per gallon in 2012 to $3.55 per gallon in 2013 and $3.38 per gallon in 2014.

  • The Commerce Department reported that retail sales increased 1.1 percent from January and 4.6 percent from February 2012, beating expectations that called for a more modest rise of .5 percent. The National Retail Federation (NRF) calculated that retail sales increased 0.7 percent from January (excluding restaurants, gas stations, and automobiles).  On a year-over-year basis, NRF put retail sales up 0.5 over February 2012.
