The American Trucking Associations (ATA) has urged the Department of Transportation (DOT) to start conducting a rulemaking to mandate electronic logging devices (ELD). ATA recently sent a letter to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, asking the agency to recognize that a mandate on ELDs is among the most important of the provisions in the recent highway transportation reauthorization. “In ATA’s view, ELDs are the best option to improve hours-of-service compliance and, if the underlying HOS rules are based on sound research, ELDs are a very good tool by which additional truck safety gains can be achieved,” ATA President Bill Graves wrote.
