Sometimes it involves introducing a completely new offering and other times it is about making small, meaningful improvements to our existing operations.

Those of us in the industry know that it is important to innovate to stay relevant. We also know that innovation comes in wide array of shapes and sizes. Sometimes it involves introducing a completely new offering and other times it is about making small, meaningful improvements to our existing operations.

Change is a constant. We’ve seen the trucking industry make drastic changes over the past 40 years, and our businesses have changed in response. Right now we seem to be operating in a period of rapid change. E-commerce is shifting the length of haul, data analytics are changing the way trucking companies operate and autonomous vehicles are continuing to make headlines.

The ways our customers shop are changing as well. They can buy anything online—from cough drops to electronic logging devices—and they’re increasingly after convenience. They want shopping to be easy and enjoyable, and more and more are looking for an experience. All of that may change the way we build our businesses going forward.

As NATSO members, we have an advantage. We are a team united by a common goal of improving our businesses and growing our industry, and we can all tap into the knowledge NATSO members possess and use it to grow our businesses. By being involved with NATSO, I have met operators from across the country, and they are always more than willing to share their insights.

NATSO Show to NATSO Connect
Just as our members are adapting the way they do business, we are reinventing The NATSO Show. We are redesigning every element of our annual meeting, from the trade show to the keynotes to even the name, with a single goal in mind: to create an event that will enable our members to not just survive but thrive amidst ongoing disruption.

I encourage you to save the date now for NATSO Connect 2018, February 10–13 in Nashville, Tennessee. At NATSO Connect, hundreds of innovative, senior truckstop operators and industry partners will come together to connect. For two-and-a-half days, this collaborative group will share insights and best practices in order to convert ideas into action and re-invent how truckstops do business.

Connecting with each other can help us create the best versions of our businesses. When we collaborate, we can uncover innovative solutions that lead to a fresh approach. More often than not, we can achieve more than we could have on our own. Stay tuned as much more information will be announced about what NATSO Connect 2018 has to offer. Make sure you are there next February.
