Great ideas translate into great opportunities, and one of the best ways to continue generating new ideas is to be excited about your business. Here are ten tips to help you stay passionate about your location:

  1. Ask Yourself Positive Questions
Each morning, ask what would excite you and how you want to spend your time. Motivation comes from within. When you are excited about the day ahead, it will help you achieve more.

  2. Treat Your Business As Your Baby
Identifying yourself with your business can help you stay motivated over time.

  3. Surround Yourself With Engaged Peers
Connect and network with people whose energy and enthusiasm will rub off on you.

  4. Create Time To Focus On New Ideas
Intentionally schedule time to think about new opportunities, which will get you excited. Carve out some time either daily or weekly. Or, take it to the next level and make it a point to attend the Great Ideas Workshop for Independent Operators at The NATSO Show 2015.

  5. Select The Right Environment
Where you work can either stimulate or prohibit motivation. Create an office that will meet your needs, or if you can, pack up your laptop and find a new place to work either for the day or long term.

  6. Eliminate Things You Don’t Enjoy Doing
While there are some tasks you simply have to do, there may be things you can delegate. Think about which members of your team could take over some of your responsibilities, then invest in the training necessary to make it happen. Not only will you free up your time, you’ll empower your team.

  7. Take A Break
If you’re feeling bored or frustrated, take a break. Take a walk, read an article or move into a different place within the business and spend some time making conversation with employees or customers.

  8. Give Employees A Chance To Take Part In Decisions
Keeping employees engaged will keep them excited about the business. That, in turn, will help keep you excited.

  9. Remember What Is It About Your Business That Excites You
Ask yourself why you wanted to get into the truckstop and travel plaza business. Was it to serve customers or provide a safe haven for those on the road? Spend time thinking about creative ways you can continue to grow your original goals.

  10. Focus On The Long-Term Plan
Even if there are times when you aren’t excited about the business, it is helpful to focus on your long-term goals. Maintaining a vision beyond the present will help keep you and your employees engaged.
