    According to a recent DEF industry survey, many truck drivers are concerned about DEF's impact on fuel economy. While drivers are most worried about fuel economy reductions, they also voiced concerns about cold weather performance and possible additional maintenance costs.   4. Mud Flaps and Fuel Efficiency
    A Chattanooga, Tenn., based mud flap manufacturer has made some simple alterations to a common product to enhance trucks' fuel efficiency. The Eco-Flap utilizes a smaller, curved design that reduces air-drag and keeps moisture in the form of rain and snow from building up on the flap's surface. The company says the mud flaps can reduce air-drag by as much as 8.5 percent and improve fuel efficiency by 3.5 percent. Click here to read more >

  5. Minnesota Urges Tighter Fuel Tank Security
    Minnesota is urging distributors and retailers to tighten tank security measures after fuel tanks were contaminated at several retail outlets. The incidents, which caused more than $1 million in vehicle damage, have yet to be solved. Click here to read more >

    Convoy Solutions, LLC, has announced expansion plans for its IdleAir idle-reduction systems. IdleAir recently has opened three locations at truckstops in Texas and Utah. It has six openings planned in Ohio, Texas and California for the coming months.   7. Refiners Consider Increased Physical Blending 
    Several U.S. refiners are performing their own physical blending of ethanol and gasoline and biodiesel because of high RIN prices. PBF Energy and Alon USA have announced new plans to reduce the high cost of purchasing renewable credits by involving themselves more in the blending process. Click here to read more >

  9. U.S. Vehicle Travel Drops in June, Diesel Sales Grow
    June vehicle travel decreased .4 percent, or 900 million vehicle miles, from the prior year, according to a recent Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) report. Total vehicle miles in June totaled 258.1 billion miles. Diesel sales reached 3.252 billion gallons in April, however, marking a 9.3 percent increase over the year-earlier period. Click here to read more >
