I am pleased to introduce the NATSO Foundation’s newest publication—the Biz Brief.

The Biz Brief is a daily e-newsletter created to satisfy NATSO member’s appetite for business intelligence. As the publication’s editor, I will sift through hundreds of news sources daily, select the most relevant and timely news and then editorially distill it into a must-read briefing tailored specifically for truckstop and travel plaza owners and operators.

In today’s information-overloaded business world, we often find ourselves deluged with literally hundreds of news items from dozens of sources. While it is likely impossible to read every article and remain productive, by not doing so we risk missing the one article that could change a key business practice or thought process. And that is where the NATSO Foundation’s newest publication, Biz Brief, provides assistance!

Starting tomorrow, NATSO members can expect this daily briefing of 10 to 12 hand-picked articles in their inbox each morning. Readers can expect news links on topics such as alternative energy, natural gas, the interstate highway system, pipelines, energy taxes, hours of service and truck weight issues. Additionally, the newsletter will includes articles detailing more general business issues such as leadership, freight logistics, economic indicators and information technology.

In addition to saving you valuable time each day, the Biz Brief will provide you, the reader, with information that will allow you to see trends developing over a period of time. While one article is not likely to provide significant insight, a series of articles on a particular topic will allow you to foresee patterns that can be used for your competitive advantage. For example:

  • Development of new pipelines might suggest a trend of fuel freight rates coming to your area;
  • Patterns may develop through articles of increased use of natural gas or alternative fuels; or
  • The deepening of ports in the Southeastern U.S. may portend future shifts in freight movements.

The Biz Brief is the latest tool in the foundation’s arsenal of programs and products aimed at strengthening travel plazas’ ability to meet the needs of the travelling public through improved operational performance and business planning.

We welcome your involvement in Biz Brief. Let us know topics that you think would be beneficial to your business. Please provide us with your thoughts and feedback by emailing us at editor@natso.com
