NATSO Foundation Fights Human Trafficking

NCMEC has developed a High-Risk Child Poster listserv designed to increase the visibility of missing children believed to be at high risk for sex trafficking. Through the listserv, businesses can register to receive electronic posters containing their images and other vital information. The NATSO Foundation is urging truckstops and travel plazas nationwide to sign up to receive these posters, which can be shared with staff or hung in a location visible to customers.

With growing concern about human trafficking across America, the truckstop and travel plaza industry is doing its part to stop this heinous crime when it takes place along the nation’s highway system.

Most recently, the NATSO Foundation has teamed up with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to help distribute information about children considered to be at risk of sexual exploitation.

Sadly, human trafficking has been reported across all modes of transportation and in many types of legitimate businesses.

As an industry that caters to millions of travelers every year, truckstops and travel plazas are uniquely positioned to help identify and stop human trafficking along America’s highway system.

The NCMEC listserv initiative is just one of many ways that our industry is taking a stand to stop the flow of human trafficking.

To date, the NATSO Foundation has joined Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking, a broad coalition of businesses and trade associations working to raise awareness about this crime.

We’ve also partnered with Truckers Against Trafficking and the Federal Bureau of Investigations to host seminars aimed at educating truckstops and travel plazas about local human trafficking problems and what they can do to prevent, identify and report them.

Our efforts on this issue continue to grow in both size and scope. Together, we can help make a difference.  We urge you to join us in this important fight.
