We Need You on Capitol Hill

Because of my 20-plus trips to NATSO’s annual Day on Capitol Hill, me and my team have built a relationship with Sen. Grassley that isn't just in Washington. It has grown so that he recognizes several of us and remembers the truckstop.

Editor’s NoteIn today's political landscape there are so many different interest groups trying to be heard. Now more than ever, lawmakers and their staff need to hear from their constituents in person as they shape public policy. Who else can better tell people on Capitol Hill about how their policy affects your business?

NATSO’s annual Day on Capitol Hill, which will be held May 6-8, provides that opportunity. NATSO members from across the country will come to Washington, D.C., to engage in personal meetings with their lawmakers about the vital importance of the truckstop industry.

Here’s what veteran industry leader Delia Moon Meier had to say about her experiences with Day on the Hill, and why you should consider attending this year’s event.

We Need You on Capitol Hill
By guest post contributor Delia Moon Meier, Iowa 80 Group

A few years ago, NATSO invited Sen. Chuck Grassley from Iowa to speak at the Day on the Hill luncheon, and I was honored to introduce him.

When Sen. Grassley began his speech, he talked about our truckstop, Iowa 80, and the times he had visited and toured.

Because of my 20-plus trips to NATSO’s annual Day on Capitol Hill, me and my team have built a relationship with Sen. Grassley that isn't just in Washington. It has grown so that he recognizes several of us and remembers the truckstop.

Day on the Hill isn't just for people who like politics. In fact, I imagine every attendee would prefer to spend that day working at their truckstop.

Unfortunately, America has shifted and a government takeover of our industry is a very real possibility.  People just aren't aware of how the truckstop industry works and how unfair and damaging the commercialization of rest areas would be. They aren't aware of how many people we employ and our contributions to the local and state communities.

They don’t know, until we tell them.

I urge every operator to attend the Day on the Hill. Our issues are not generally partisan and people really listen to us and learn from us.

We need you.
