Growing up, my dad, an electrical engineer, frequently joked that he never entered a room in our house without first turning on the light. The reason was my mom, a potter, liked to move the furniture around so frequently it was impossible to remember where to step.

This desire to redesign your world in a very visual way has stuck with me through the years. So when we decided it was time to redesign Stop Watch, I was thrilled. But first, before we got to the good stuff—the fonts, the colors, the pictures, naturally— the electrical engineer in me made sure we had the proper framework laid out.

The framework, or in the case of our magazine, the mission, remains the same as before the redesign—to deliver a member benefit that provides in-depth content to assist NATSO members in improving their travel plaza business operations as well as provides context on trends and news affecting the industry.

With this mission in the front of our minds, we then applied our primary design goals to the magazine. We want to make the magazine feel fresh, to layout the stories with more of a focus on our members, and to give slight nods to NATSO’s also newly redesigned website.

Our goal is to serve you, so please email your likes, dislikes and suggestions to editor@natso.com. If you need help rearranging your living room furniture, send me a question about that too. I’m happy to help.

P.S. NATSO’s website now includes an online version of the magazine, which is available here! There you will find the entire content of an issue plus the occasional web-only bonuses. With each article, you also have the opportunity to add your voice in the comments and the handy ability to forward an article of interest to a friend or staff member.
