State Department Report Says Keystone Pipeline To Have Little Environmental Impact
March 4, 2013
The Keystone XL (KXL) pipeline cleared another hurdle last week after a draft report by the State Department concluded that building the pipeline would have little impact on the environment. The report quickly fueled renewed GOP pressure on President Obama to approve the pipeline.
American Petroleum Institute (API) Executive Vice President Marty Durbin welcomed the State Department’s draft Environmental Impact Statement saying, “No matter how many times KXL is reviewed, the result is the same: no significant environmental impact,” said Durbin. “The latest impact statement from the State Department puts this important, job-creating project one step closer to reality. ... The last approval needed is by President Obama, and we urge him to do so as soon as possible."
