NATSO Responds to Finance Committee Call for Tax Reform Input

NATSO filed comments April 15 with the Senate Finance Committee in response to the committee’s call for stakeholder and public input on how best to overhaul the nation’s tax code.

Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) in March announced a bipartisan effort to solicit ideas from individuals, businesses and civic groups for simplifying the tax code as well as making it fairer and more efficient.

The information and data collected will be submitted to the committee’s bipartisan tax working groups, which currently are analyzing existing tax law and reform options.

Among its comments, NATSO urged the committee to incorporate a solution into a tax reform package that keeps the Highway Trust Fund solvent and provides adequate funding for the nation’s roads and bridges.

NATSO also requested that Congress clarify existing rules governing the assessment of taxes on compressed natural gas, address the tax parity issues that exist between liquefied natural gas and diesel, and support the biodiesel tax credit.
