NATSO kicks off NATSO Connect in Orlando, Fla., today with hundreds of the nation’s truckstops, travel plazas, fuel retailers and their industry partners gathering here for three days of professional connection, networking and education.

This year’s show officially opens with a keynote on the changing needs of truckstops’ customers and their employees and how smart truckstop operates can meet those needs.

Sponsored by Coca-Cola and TVC, the opening keynote features Michael Sansolo, research director, Coca-Cola Retailing Research Council of North America, who will combine his experience working with some of the world’s most innovative companies with research from the Coca-Cola Retailing Research Council of North America to explore the changing needs of truckstop customers and their employees. After delivering his remarks, Sansolo will join NATSO’s President and CEO Lisa Mullings and NATSO’s Vice President, Membership Darren Schulte in a discussion on what this research means for the truckstop and travel plaza industry.

Today’s lineup also features a Renewable Fuels Master Class, an in-depth workshop from the Alternative Fuels Council. Fuels experts Jeff Hove and Ginger Laidlaw of NATSO’s Alternative Fuels Council will provide attendees detailed information on the purpose of the Renewable Fuel Standard and information on how renewable fuel blenders can benefit from the standard and RIN credits. The workshop will cover how RIN credits are reported, audited and traded. Hove and Laidlaw also will cover sourcing fuels, finding supply, logistics hurdles and storage needs.

Paul Nazzaro of Advanced Fuel Solutions Inc. will dive into biodiesel fuel management and quality control steps to optimize customer satisfaction.

The education and networking opportunities run through Wed. Feb. 13, with other highly anticipated learning sessions and keynotes, featuring Susan Alt, Volvo Group North America; Frank Beard, Gas Buddy; John Eichberger, Fuel Institute; Dan Murray, American Transportation Research Institute; Dave Manning, TCW, Inc.; Michael Lawshe, Paragon Solution; and Andrew Ouimet, Ouimet Consulting Group.
