Biz Brief Reader Tip Sheet
September 1, 2013
Biz Brief is the latest tool in the NATSO Foundation’s arsenal of programs and products aimed at strengthening travel plazas’ ability to meet the needs of the traveling public through improved operational performance and business planning.
Delivered daily via email, Biz Brief is specifically designed to deliver daily business intelligence for the truckstop and travel plaza community of owners and operators.
How can you best use the features that are provided each day in the Biz Brief? Here are editor Roger Cole’s tips for what to watch for to make the most of the newsletter's business intelligence:
1. Watch for trends developing in certain areas as you read articles of similar topics
- Are more of your customers moving to alternative fuels over time?
- Should you expect traffic increases based on the economic indicators that you are seeing?
- Based on specific rail and port information, might you foresee a change in freight movements and traffic patterns?
- Are you seeing legislative actions in other states around the country that might suggest coming legislation in your own area?
2. Watch for news that can provide competitive advantage
- Are there refinery or pipeline developments that could affect supply dynamics in your area?
- Are interstate developments or changes occurring several states away that might make your site more appealing to traffic?
- Is a trucking company closing a terminal 100miles from you?
3. Watch for stories that you can convert into business tools
- Is there new shop equipment or information technology available that can increase your team’s productivity?
- Does information regarding changing driver demographics suggest a new service or product that you might offer?
4. Watch for articles that can change the way you think
- Are there business leadership techniques that might aid your effectiveness?
- Should my strategic goals change given changing marketplace dynamics?
- How can I benchmark from some of the best of businesses’ leaders?
