Tolling existing interstates to fund infrastructure projects would cost fuel retailers, fast-food restaurants, convenience stores and other businesses along interstate routes billions, the Alliance for Toll-Free Interstates (ATFI) told the New York Times.

In an article published April 3 titled “Agreement on Interstate Repair Needs, But Not on How to Pay for Them” ATFI said tolling is not a “painless option” as proponents say. In addition to costing businesses customers as they choose other routes, ATFI said tolls will increase the costs for goods shipped across the country.
