{Great Ideas} One Dozen More Ideas to Reduce Shrink at Your Truckstop Immediately

Did you get any good tips from my last Great Ideas post on One Dozen Ideas to Reduce Shrink at Your Truckstop Immediately?

Remember you don't have to wait until after your audit results to take action. Below are a dozen more things you can do immediately to reduce your shrink loss.

  1. Practice preventing short change artists.
  2. Enforce that every customer is given a bag, a receipt and a thank you.
  3. Do not let your employees park next to the trash dumpster.
  4. Do not let your employees park next to the back door.
  5. Keep purses and back packs in locked employee lockers.
  6. Physically touch every item during the vendor check in process.
  7. Do not allow vendors to count the product themselves during the check in process. Never allow products to be counted in multiples.
  8. Ensure vendors check with you prior to departure and ensure they have flattened boxes.
  9. Pay attention to returns. Do you challenge returns in a proactive manner from your employees? Specifically the person who accepted the return? Do your returns of larger priced items spike on certain days, such as Friday?
  10. Drop money frequently. Enforce your location's drop policy.
  11. Spot check invoices for retail errors, price change errors and margin degradation.
  12. Thank your employees frequently. Let them know they are part of the solution.

Editor’s Note: Schulte is teaching a bonus workshop on Wednesday morning of The NATSO Show on shrink management. Attendees will learn more actionable take-home ideas to immediately improve their shrink loss and will leave with an actual shrink management plan to use as a building block for their own. - AT
