Tax Extenders Package Update
June 18, 2012
Amy Toner/NATSO
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) met with other tax writers last week to discuss what temporary tax provisions are likely to be extended at year's end. In the closed-door session, Senators talked about the more than 100 "tax extenders" that expire Dec. 31 or have already expired. Baucus indicated that he wanted to look at all of them to see which ones had support, and which ones could be dropped.
In the House, Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Ohio), who has conducted several hearings on tax extenders, has predicted that a package would not be ready until after the election and has said any provisions that would be extended would have to be paid for. During House hearings, NATSO and others have advocated an extension of the biodiesel blenders tax credit that expired last year.
