Facing mounting pressure from Congress and the trucking industry, the U.S. Transportation Department has agreed to revise its Compliance, Safety, and Accountability (CSA) program, including re-evaluating the relationship between carrier safety scores and crash risks.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has acknowledged that two of the grading system’s five safety scores don’t conform with crash statistics. Regulators now say they’re trying to understand why and will propose new formulas in March, according to Bloomberg.

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) has been calling for DOT to revisit its CSA program since the program's launch, and in mid-October, Representatives John Duncan Jr. (R-Tenn.) and Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) made a formal audit request. No specific timeline has been set for the revisions.
